The Wild Dolphin Project, a nonprofit scientific research organization studying the behavior and communication of the Atlantic spotted dolphins in the wild, presents their 6th annual signature event, Wild Ocean Science.

Doors open at 4:30pm. Come early to enjoy the reception: meet-n-greet, book signing, photo ops, great raffle items, vendors, light hors d'oeuvres. Presentation starts at 6pm.

Carl Safina presents "Animal Minds, Animal Cultures".

Carl Safina’s lyrical non-fiction writing explores how humans are changing the living world, and what the changes mean for non-human beings and for us all. His work fuses scientific understanding, emotional connection, and a moral call to action. His writing has won a MacArthur “genius” prize; Pew, Guggenheim, and National Science Foundation Fellowships; book awards from Lannan, Orion, and the National Academies; and the John Burroughs, James Beard, and George Rabb medals. He is founding president of the not-for-profit Safina Center. He hosted the PBS series Saving the Ocean, which can be viewed free at PBS.org.  Safina is a New York Times best selling author and his of ten books include the classic Song for the Blue Ocean, Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel, and his most recent book is Becoming Wild: How Animal Cultures Raise Families, Create Beauty, and Achieve Peace.

Wild Ocean Science is moderated and emceed by independent American broadcast news journalist,  Miles O’Brien, specializing in science, technology, and aerospace who has been serving as national science correspondent for PBS NewsHour.

Dr. Denise Herzing, Research Director and Founder of The Wild Dolphin Project, will be signing books and available for photos.

•4:30pm Doors Open early! Enjoy the Reception!

  • Guests can enjoy catered hors d'oeuvres, browse raffle items and vendor tables, shop WDP merchandise. WDP team members will share information about joining research trips and other ways to support the project. Guests may have books signed and a photo taken with Dr. Herzing and Carl Safina. A visually stunning musical slideshow will be playing in the auditorium during the reception hour thanks to our friends at Focused on Nature.


•6:00pm

  • Take your seats and enjoy the show! Q&A will be moderated at the conclusion of the presentation by Miles O’Brien.


•7:30pm

  • Raffle winners will be announced.


•7:30 – 8:00pm

  • Last chance to purchase merchandise, inquire about trips, memberships, book signing, photo ops.
